Patience

Things have remained mostly the same all day today. Not much to report, which for us is pretty disappointing since we really needed to see some progress today if only for our own sanity. We are feeling pretty jerked around by the ups and downs of her status, and now being on ECMO again has been very discouraging. We have been pretty low on faith these past 36 hours. However, one of our goals for today did begin to be accomplished in the last several hours. We wanted to see her maintain her blood pressure while reducing the amount of medication she's on and drawing fluid off of her body (she's still as bloated as she was coming out of the operating room--thus far, they haven't been able to remove fluid because her blood pressure would drop when they attempted to). Her care team has successfully begun to do this. Now we have to wait and see if it can continue. While this little bit of progress makes us feel like we can exhale a bit for tonight, we are very cautious with our optimism due to the emotional roller coaster we have been on since her operation. Her condition remains very serious.

Please pray that her stability continues and that we can see things move in the right direction, even if it is at a snail's pace.

We continue to pray for all of you as often as we are reminded - which is many times a day. We trust that God is in control. We have no idea why all this stress. I know some limits of medical technology (although seemingly mindboggling) is still obviously limited in the big picture. When things are relatively stable I wish there was a way for you to rest.
I am wondering if anyone at NPU might be able to set up some kind of a support fund for Evie if that is a reasonable idea.
What are the best ways we can all try to be helpful? You have friends in many places each of whom has friendship networks, church prayer groups, etc. Thank you for the updates.
I need to get back to sleep if I can.

Love Clarke and Iris.

Matt and Nicole and Evie,
Our prayer circle is lifting you up before the Lord. There are many of your brothers and sisters here at Charter Oak praying fervently for your family. We love the "Bodines" and have seen God work in their lives over the years.

Blessings in Christ,
Jodi R.

We continue to pray for dear little Evie Marie. May God have mercy on her!

Now a prayer for you two, adapted from the morning prayer of Metropolitan (Archbishop)Philaret of Moscow, Russia, who died in 1867:

O Lord, grant that Matt and Nicole greet the coming day in peace. Help them in all things to rely upon Thy holy will. In every hour of the day reveal Thy will to hem. Bless their dealings with all who surround them Teach them to treat all that comes to them throughout the day with peace of soul, and with firm conviction that Thy will governs all. In all their deeds and words, guide their thoughts and feelings. In unforeseen events, let them not forget that all are sent by Thee. Teach them to act firmly and wisely, without embarrassing or embittering others. Give them strength to bear the fatigue of the coming day with all that it shall bring. Direct their will and teach them to pray, to believe, to hope, to be patient, to forgive, and to love. For Thou art the illumination of our souls and bodies, O Christ our God, and unto Thee we ascribe glory, together with Thine Eternal Father, and Thine all-holy, good, and life-giving Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen

Dear Matt and Nicole: I understand the emotional roller coaster you have been on and my heart breaks for you. I just encourage you to lean on each other and keep praying to our God. He does hear your cries. And when you are so tired and don't know what to say to God anymore remember Romans 8:26 "We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express". My prayers are with you both, Love, Joelene Lemke

I know we don't know each other but heard from Lynne Paulus that your family is in need of much prayer. My husband, Alex, and I were at the NICU this time last year. It's a tough, emotional roller coaster. It feels like your family takes two steps forward then the next minute 20 steps back. But to encourage you, we had a four pound peanut with problems with his pancreas. A year later, Hunter is now 26 pounds and a big boy.
Please know that peole who don't even know you are thinking and praying for you. Cling on to that cross!

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ overflow into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows. @ Corinthians 1:3 Praying for all three of you. Thanks for blogging so faithfully.

matt and nicole,

checking your blog and close friends everyday for updated news. if God can knit us together in the womb, certainly he can do a little darning on evie now that she is on the outside. i know that sounds light, but i've had that picture in my mind as i pray for the three of you and am earnestly asking God to complete what has already been so carefully started.

try to shower, eat, sleep, exercise a little -- .
